2017 Board of Directors


Gregg Houston died on Sunday November 20th 2016, after suffering a series of strokes. He was an actor, an executive in the entertainment industry, a community organizer, and a beloved friend and family member. 

After graduating from Tufts University, Gregg moved to New York City, where he organized his Harlem apartment building to drive out drug dealers and convinced the city of New York to turn over ownership of the apartments to the tenants. In the 1990s he moved to Los Angeles, where he continued his career as an actor and became a development executive for entertainment companies such as HBO and MTM.  Gregg also served as the original Director of the Jimi Hendrix Foundation, where he oversaw the foundation's grantmaking to arts organizations.  He went on to work for United Airlines. Throughout his career, he continued to appear in films, television programs, and commercials.

For the past four years, Gregg worked for a more just, equitable, and sustainable world as a member of the Board of the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation, where he served as Secretary and member of the Grants and Executive Committees. He was also the President of the Tarzana Neighborhood Watch Coalition and a Sergeant-at-Arms for SAG-AFTRA, the union of  film and television actors.  

Gregg was a magnetic personality, a generous sibling and friend, and had an extraordinary sense of humor. He will be missed by his extensive family and many circles of friends.

Instead of flowers, Gregg requested contributions to the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation.


Board 2017

Dorothy Anderson is a great granddaughter of Jessie Smith Noyes (4th generation). She has worked in publishing for more than 35 years and runs an editorial services firm in Connecticut. Term ends 12/31/2017, Chair of the Nominating Committee, Member of the Audit and Executive Committees

Rachel Anderson is a great, great-granddaughter of Jessie Smith Noyes (5th generation) and the daughter of Dorothy Anderson, a board member. Rachel is currently working at Pension Real Estate Association in Hartford Connecticut where she is the Director of Member Services. She is also a licensed real estate agent with Century21 Clemens and Sons in the state of Connecticut. Rachel is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a degree in economics and management. In 2011, she studied abroad and traveled to five countries within Europe and the United Kingdom. Rachel has competed in Connecticut as an amateur equestrian rider, placing first in her division for a number of years. Brook Beardsley is the daughter of George Beardsley, a former Board member, and part of the Muma branch of the Noyes family (4th generation). She is a General Liability Public Sector Technical Specialist at Travelers Insurance in San Antonio, Texas. At Travelers, Brook helps to create opportunities for employees in her office to volunteer and provide financial support to several organizations in the community. She also facilitates a diversity and inclusion program that was widely utilized throughout the company. Term ends 12/31/2019, Member of the Fund Development and Executive Committees

Jenifer Getz is a great–granddaughter of Charles F. Noyes and daughter of Ann Wiener, a board member emeritus. Jenifer  worked in the Aviation field as a pilot for  20 years. More recently she works for an Accounting and Audit firm in Albuquerque where she performs audits of Not For Profit entities and State Governments. She teaches a class  in Audit preparation for  NPO’s  in New Mexico and is  active in her community as well as politically.  She and her husband and two children live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Term ends 12/31/2020, Co-Chair of the Development Committee, Member of the Finance and Grants Committee

Steven Godeke is an independent impact investment advisor who works with foundations, corporations and non-profit organizations to integrate their philanthropic and investment goals. He has been at the forefront of the impact investing industry and has contributed to the field through several groundbreaking publications. Prior to establishing his own firm, Steven worked for 12 years in corporate and project finance with Deutsche Bank and was a member of the bank’s strategic planning team.  Steven is a Fulbright Scholar and earned an M.P.A. from Harvard. He is an adjunct professor of finance at New York University's Stern School of Business and at the Center for Global Affairs. Steven is a board member of the Jackson Square Alliance, a public park conservancy in Greenwich Village and a core team member of the West Village Community Supported Agriculture group. He lives in New York City. Term ends 12/31/2019, Chair of the Board,Member of the Audit, Fund Development, Grants and Executive Committees

Judy Hatcher is the Executive Director of Pesticide Action Network (PAN) North America, which links local and international consumer, labor, health, environment and agriculture groups into an international citizens’ action network to challenge the global proliferation of pesticides, defend basic rights to health and environmental quality, and work to ensure the transition to a just and viable food system. Judy joined PAN in June 2012. Previous employers include National People's Action, the Crossroads Fund, Amnesty International USA, the Funding Exchange, the Community Resource Exchange, the Center for Community Change, and the Environmental Support Center. She has served on several boards of directors, including the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, RESIST!, the Grassroots Institute for Fundraising Training, and the Twenty-First Century Foundation. Since moving to Oakland, she's been happily volunteering at the East Bay Meditation Center. Vice-Chair of the Board

Jaribu Hill is a founder and executive director of the Mississippi Workers’ Center for Human Rights, a worker advocacy organization that provides organizing support, and training for low wage, non-union workers in the state. She established the Fannie Lou Hamer Roundtable and the Fannie Lou Hamer Student Internship. A national and international spokesperson for human rights and social justice causes for over 30 years, Jaribu is a licensed attorney in the field of civil and human rights. Nick Jacangelo is a managing partner of McGrath, Doyle & Phair, CPA, which has been the Foundation’s accounting firm since its beginning. Nick’s firm does extensive work in the not-for-profit field, and he is a board member of several private foundations. He is a tenured member of the Noyes Board, having served since 1982. Nick lives in New Jersey. Tenured, Treasurer, Member of the Finance and Executive Committees

Haile Johnston is a Philadelphia-based social entrepreneur who works to improve the vitality of rural and urban communities through food systems reform and policy change. As a father of four, Haile actively pursues his core purpose to “repair the earth for our children and prepare our children for the earth.” Along with his wife Tatiana, he is the Co-Director and a founder of The Common Market, a nonprofit distribution enterprise headquartered in Philadelphia that connects communities in the Mid Atlantic states and the Atlanta, Georgia region to sustainable, locally grown farm food.  The two have also teamed up to found the East Park Revitalization Alliance in their community of Strawberry Mansion where they have resided for thirteen years. Haile is a graduate of University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business where he concentrated in entrepreneurial management. He is proud to have recently served as a Food and Community Fellow with the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy.

Olivia Roanhorse is Diné (Navajo) and from Window Rock, AZ. She has over 15 years of experience in the public health field. She is currently the Director of Native Strong: Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures at the Notah Begay III (NB3) Foundation in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM.  Prior to joining the NB3 Foundation, Olivia worked in the areas of health prevention programming and policy change in Chicago, IL. Olivia received her Masters in Public Health in Health Policy and Administration from the University of Illinois in Chicago and her BA degree in Environmental Science from Colorado College.

Arlene Rodriguez a principal at ARC ASSOCIATES.  She bring 32 years of experience in the non-profit, public, and philanthropic sectors in organizational development and operations, strategic planning, program design and implementation, fundraising, management, program evaluation, and leading complex partnerships and collaboration. With social and racial equity as a cornerstone of her work, Arlene has assisted groups to establish strong board leadership and governance structures, build strategic vision, develop and implement major programmatic investments, and organize effective collaborations. She served as the Director of the Environment Program for The San Francisco Foundation and oversaw the foundations Leadership and Organizational Resiliency program.  She was the director of member services for Living Cities and senior program officer for the environment at the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation; directed community programs and founded the Crissy Field Environmental Center with Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy; and acted as the Urban Program Director for the Western Region of The Trust for Public Land. Arlene has volunteered as a trustee on many non-profit and foundation boards; and was a commissioner for the City and County of San Francisco for six years. Born in Cuba, Arlene has lived in Chicago, North Carolina and California and is now in Brooklyn. Lenora Suki, CFA, CAIA, LEED AP, is the Head of Sustainable Finance Product Strategy in Bloomberg’s Sustainable Business and Finance Group. Lenora's focus is on strategy for sustainable finance products, with an emphasis on extending Bloomberg's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) product and other sustainable finance efforts across asset classes to comprehensively understand investment risks and opportunities. She is currently working on projects in fixed income, real estate, and private equity, as well as initiatives at the intersection of philanthropy and product strategy, such as green and social bonds, impact investment and data science applications. Before Bloomberg, Lenora founded Smart Cities Advisors, an affordable housing and urban regeneration advisory firm for emerging markets. In 2002, she joined the Earth Institute at Columbia University as an Associate Director advising on sustainable development. Prior to Columbia, Lenora was regional fixed income strategist at Santander Investment and emerging markets analyst at OFFITBANK, now Wells Fargo. Lenora also worked at the World Bank in the Treasury, Europe and Central Asia and in private sector development. Lenora earned an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management, a BA in Government from Pomona College and a BA in economics from the University of Houston. Ann Wiener is a granddaughter of Charles F. Noyes (3rd generation). She has been connected to the Foundation since childhood and remembers discussing scholarship applications with her mother and father. Ann is an activist, and has been a community organizer, teacher, and was principal of a small, diverse public New York City middle school which she founded and led for 15 years. She now coaches and mentors new principals at the New York City Leadership Academy. She also is on the Board of Amber Charter School. A New York City resident, Ann joined the Noyes Board in 1962 and is a tenured member. Board Member Emeritus, Member of the Fund Development and Nominating Committees
